  1. The main purposes of the prefitting examination are to:

  3. 1. Determine ocular health and 
  4.     suitability of contact lens wear
  5.  
  6. 2. Obtain baseline data for future 
  7.     reference
  8.  
  9. 3. Obtain data to determine best  
  10.     contact lens type, parameters of 
  11.     the first diagnostic lens, and to be 
  12.     able to order correct lens power
  13.  
  14. 4. Consult with the patient as to the 
  15.     suitability, risks, limitations and 
  16.     expectations of contact lens wear
  17.  
  18. (This module assumes the student understands general examination procedures and, thus, most procedures are not described in detail.  Other modules or texts on refraction procedures should be consulted if any of the procedures are not understood).
